Ankit Baliyan Murder Case Takes a Dramatic Turn: Two Suspected Shooters Killed in Shamli Encounter

The murder of Haryanvi singer, actor and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan has taken a major turn, with Uttar Pradesh Police saying two suspected shooters linked to the killing were killed in an early-morning encounter in Shamli on Monday.

The development comes just days after Baliyan was shot dead outside a gym in Shamli on August 26, sending shockwaves through the Haryanvi music community.

What Happened to Ankit Baliyan?

Baliyan was reportedly leaving a gym in Shamli’s Kotwali area on the evening of August 26 when four armed assailants travelling on two motorcycles opened fire.

Police and media reports have said that multiple rounds were fired before the attackers fled. Baliyan suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead after being taken for medical treatment.

The killing quickly became a major talking point across Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, particularly because of Baliyan’s popularity as a singer and YouTube personality.

Two Suspects Killed in Shamli

According to police, the investigation identified four alleged shooters in the murder case.

Early Monday morning, police teams intercepted two suspects, identified as Sumit, 24, and Mohit, 22, both from Sonipat, Haryana. Each reportedly carried a reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to their arrest. 

Police said the suspects opened fire while attempting to evade the checkpoints. Two constables were injured during the exchange, after which the two suspects were critically wounded in retaliatory firing. They were later taken to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead, according to police accounts.

Why the Case Is Still Not Over

While the encounter represents a significant development, police say the investigation has not ended.

Four shooters were allegedly involved in Baliyan’s killing, meaning investigators still need to establish the roles of the remaining suspects and determine the wider chain behind the murder.

That is also what Baliyan’s family has been stressing.

Baliyan’s Family Wants the Remaining Accused Caught

Baliyan’s family has expressed gratitude for the action taken by police but has also called for the remaining accused to be arrested.

His wife, Swati, reportedly expressed partial relief following the encounter while urging authorities to continue pursuing those still connected to the case. Baliyan’s father also thanked the Uttar Pradesh government and police while appealing for the remaining accused to be brought to justice.

For the family, the encounter may provide some relief, but it does not erase the loss of a husband, son and artist.

What Happens Next?

The immediate focus will now be on identifying and locating the remaining suspects and establishing the complete chain of events behind Baliyan’s murder.

The police encounter has certainly changed the direction of the investigation, but several questions remain unanswered: Who else was involved? Who allegedly ordered the killing? And what was the exact motive?
